notes
Since the 1800's, Chicago has attracted great numbers of Irish immigrants who have colored the City's musical landscape with the sounds of reels, jigs and hornpipes. This album is your introduction to the current Irish music scene in the City of Big Shoulders. You will hear nationally recognized talent expressing the music in a variety of stylistic approaches -- from traditional instrumentation with flutes, bodhrans and uilleann pipes to more contemporary sounds with electric guitars and even a full string orchestra. Need a pint or some traditional Irish cuisine to accompany your music? Fear not! Our special "Pub Locator Map" will guide you to the leading Chicago area venues featuring live Irish music every night of the week. "Hidden Treasures: Irish Music in Chicago"...it's for the Irish in everyone.

A nice mellow Irish music cd
author: Kathy KlokThe music is very well done, the voices are excellent. However, this is not Celtic rock, which is what I search for. If you're looking for rocking Irish music, this isn't it, but it's good.
I like to keep an extra copy on hand for gift giving!
author: mcI have had this CD for 4 years, and it's a favorite for anytime! I gave it to a friend who's recovering from cancer to lift her spirits, encourage her to tap her toes and nourish her soul!

It's summer time.. and that can only mean one thing: lots of beer. What better companion than this arse-kickin' compilation album of Chicago's top Irish musicians? I mean, we all know that the Irish are synonymous with not only the best pints on earth but the best darn pint-drinkin' tunes! From light and heel-clicking reels to toss-'em-back jigs to plaintive ballads on the uillean pipes that will stop any heart in its tracks, this compelling album will help that stout go down much better- especially if you can't get to ol' Eireann, in all her beauty, this summer.
Great music, but missing a real link with Chicago's Irish community....
author: Irish Music In ChicagoThis CD really speaks to the hidden Irish musical treasures in Chicago. Liz Carroll's fiddle will blow you away. The only thing it lacks is a true representation of the Chicago Irish community. It is surprising that The Katie Sullivan band isn't on this disc. Now they truly represent Irish Music in Chicago!
